Qhapaj Raymi is celebrated when comes the time of the Summer Solstice (aprox. December 21th) in the Andes. This is the time of year when the small plants are begining to grow. We take the opportunity to gather in a Jach’a Tantachawi/Jatun Tantanakuy of all CANO Chapters, to “grow” new projects together and coordinate them at national level.

QHAPAJ RAYMI
IN MONTREAL
Special Program
In Montreal, Canada, we will meet to celebrate Qhapaj Raymi our own way. In the Andean vision of the universe, our wise Amawtas taught us to revere Mothere Earth, because she is the unfailing source of Life. In September, the time of sowing, She receives the seeds in her fecund belly, and the seeds then passes through a spectacular transformation, it passes from death to life and becomes a tiny living being. This is the moment we celebrate the passage from death to life, today mostly celebrated November 1st as Day of the Dead.
Then comes the time of the Summer Solstice in the Andes, around December 21st. That’s the time at which the Sun and the Cosmos renew life through the seeds born in the Earth now coming out as small plants. Our wisa Amawtas called this moment “Qhapaj Raymi”, or the Celebration of New Life”, that was in our ancestors’ time celebrated with great majestic.
We recomend that all come with their kids of all ages, and if possible to wear Native clothes. Also please bring some food for the community meal. We would thank you to bring gifts for the children that will be present.
